The Reels plan to create a Great Gift Ideas series, with each EP based around a certain year of recording - 6 Great Gift Ideas includes 4 tracks from the 1980 5 Great Gift Ideas EP, plus two tracks from their 1980 album Quasimodo's Dream.

The songs on 6 Great Gift Ideas were the band's first recordings with synths, which was an experiment for Quasimodo's Dream.
